ARTIST STATEMENT

The complexities of human relationships along with the personal, socio-cultural, and technological influences that impact them have always intrigued me. Cell phones become barriers yet also function as a third eye. Intimate male relationships are ruthlessly overseen by rigid and conflicting societal constructs. Social media has everyone in an endless struggle to impress the world all while trying to accumulate likes. This all leads me to the mundane, in which there is an authenticity and vulnerability. Intimate interactions between people that are reserved for private moments or settings that aren’t typically appreciated until they are gone. By capturing these moments through snapshot photography I am then able to immortalize the ephemerality of the mundane through painting. In doing so, scale becomes important to the inclusion of the viewer. Allowing them to take part in these moments as either a participant through large scale works or as an intrusive viewer in smaller intimate works.

My influences include the works of Vermeer, Edward Hopper, Jean Carlos Puerto, Nick Alm, Maya Brodsky, and Jean-Paul Mallozzi.
